One of the first steps in the "moderization" of the chapter house was the istallation of a state-of-the-art fire alarm system. This system is "hard wired" directly to a alarm monitoring company...insuring immediate response from the East Lansing Fire Department. This important improvement not only adheres to new local codes, but greatly enhances the saftey and welfare of our Actives.

High Speed Internet Service

Installed: September, 2002

Cost: $5,000

Brothers now have wireless high-speed internet access via a network of routers running off of a cable connection . The System can comfortably handle upwards of 40 PCs and laptops within the Chapter and Doll houses. Installation included network cards for all PCs and laptos, wireless routers for each floor, cable modem, secure installation and miscellaneous gear and support.

Trophy Room Update

Completed: October, 2002

Cost: $2,500 (mostly paid for by friends of Norm Potter)

Prior to Homecoming this year, the Trophy Room was completely refurbished. The centerpiece of the project was the Norm Potter Memorial which was given a prominernt home above the trophy case. Other improvements included painting, refinished shelving, a ceiling fan, lighting, and window treatments. All the work was completed by the actives with funds donated by friends of Norm Potter. Future plans include the purchase of a large table and chairs for meetings, studying, etc.

New Rear Entry System

Installed: December, 2002

Cost: $2,200

A new door system with integrated combination lock was recently installed at the rear entrance of the Chapter house. The new entry opens outward to provide easier egress in emergencies and has an improved seal which will increase energy efficiency.

Lighting Fixtures, Fans, etc.

Installed: Summer / Fall, 2003

Cost: $3,000 (donated by Pete DeSteiger ' 70)

A special thanks goes out to Pete DeSteiger and his family who generously donated lighting fixtures, lamps, ceiling fans, switches, and dimmers to enhance the first floor chapter room and foyer. The attractive chandelier at the right now greets visitors as it hangs in the foyer area.

All Interior Doors Replaced

Completed: Summer, 2003

Cost: $35,000

All the doors on the first, second, and third floors have been replaced with steel doors and frames.
